 My inspiration was not just from my grandmother, but also from author, Stephenie Meyer.  She wrote Twilight from her dream; therefore, I was inspired to write Crossroads from my dreams. Chapter one and two are my real dreams and experiences.

About the Author

Michael Lopez was born in Hawaii. He grew up an Air Force brat and traveled half the globe. Michael interacted with different people and cultures for the first twelve years of his life. He found this awe-inspiring and fascinating. It was from these experiences that his love of learning and for exploration grew. Michael has earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a teaching credential, and a master’s degree in education. Currently, Michael lives in Northern California.

Hello Michael. Welcome to the Purple Brick Road. It's a pleasure to have you today. Please tell me about your book.

 

Zoey Le Mar has, what she thinks, is a typical preteen life in the suburbs: soccer, a strict yet loving father and mother, a pesky little brother, Owen, and two best friends, Danielle Hernandez and Lucy Le Mar. Without warning, during the preparations for Owen’s birthday party, Zoey receives her first premonition, based on a secret truth. It starts to undermine her once peaceful, eleven-year-old existence. The forewarning matches a recurring dream that has plagued Zoey since Owen’s current age. The premonition and dream involve mystery, monsters, and magic. At first, Zoey ignores off the forewarning, not really realizing what’s going on or the importance of it. The premonition involves a family secret, a forgotten responsibility, many generations removed.

As Owen’s birthday party begins, more premonitions intrude and stagger Zoey. Even her cousin Lucy gets pulled into one somehow. Then a strange present, another two-feet-tall gargoyle statue, adds to the continuing mystery of her family and this evolving day. Still wary, Zoey dismisses the warnings and all the coincidences guiding her. Humor becomes her favorite avenue to deflect the strangeness. The party ends and Lucy goes home. With that avenue of communication closed, Zoey finds solace by going to Danielle’s house. On her way there, Tricky O’Leary, a fellow classmate and local bad boy, stops her. He discovers something’s wrong and tries to help. Zoey brushes off his offer and ditches him. Once the coast is clear, she continues onto Danielle’s house and gets chased by what she thinks are monsters. But she’s not sure. She makes it to Danielle’s house and ducks inside. However, a classmate and fellow teammate, Rhea Khan, taking out the trash, sees what chases Zoey, and it becomes her problem. In the meanwhile, Danielle helps Zoey investigate the strange happenings of the day, the gargoyle present, and her family story. But an odd accident occurs when Zoey and Danielle get too close to the bizarre truth.

Now, inadvertently, all four girls, Zoey, Lucy, Rhea, and Danielle, are involved with the Le Mar family secret, possessing pieces of the puzzle. As night falls, the ignored premonitions start to come true. From a pocket dimension, the high priest of the monsters, the golems, orders some of his clan to cross over and hunt for the disturbers of the truth. Zoey’s ripple effect has many results: an accidental kidnapping of Rhea then Lucy, Owen getting taken, Zoey crossing over with an animated gargoyle protector, Danielle being dragged into this mess, and Tricky finding a way there too.

Can Zoey find a way to believe in herself and take control of this situation? Can Zoey find a way to fulfill her destiny and end this forgotten responsibility? Can Zoey find a way to do what’s right and save herself, her friends, and her brother?

An E-trade one, the baby girlfriend. (And the milk-aholic Lindsay wasn’t over. Lindsay? Milk-a-what?) And the Betty White Snickers commercial. So funny.

Benjamin Franklin, because he lived his life as an author, printer, political theorist, politician, postmaster, scientist, musician, inventor, satirist, civic activist, statesman, and diplomat.

Who said that? Where are you? Mom said I’m not allowed to talk to strangers. LOL!

LOL. What cartoon character best represents your personal philosophy?

Bugs Bunny, because, according to Elmer, he’s that rascally rabbit, and I’m very rascally.

If you had the opportunity to live one year of your life over again, which year would you choose?

My 18^th year. I would break away from my family and comfort zone and go away to college this time.

If you could be a character in any novel you've ever read, who would you be and why?

Peter Pan, because, I could fly, be young forever, and have a friend who can do magic.

I'd love to fly and be young forever. What's your favorite bumper sticker?

My review of DENIBUS AR by Chris Turner

DENIBUS AR by Chris Turner had received 5 stars (the highest possible score) from The Hampton Reviews and totally grabbed my attention. After reading the sample on Amazon, I knew this was my kind of adventure! DENIBUS AR is beautifully written, and the language and descriptions of this fantastic place are magnificent. I was taken in by this author's powerful prose, eloquence, and fluency.

A plane crashes in the white Sahara sand and an American Greek pilot uncovers an amazing discovery that will turn the world upside down when they unearth a towering six-sided pyramid! This rocks the archaeological world because usually pyramids are five-sided, not six.

It takes seven months to move 35,000 tons of earth to uncover the pyramid, and then it was painstakingly excavated for another five months by forty-five dedicated workers. Its one of the world's greatest treasures, but should it be respected and left alone? The Egyptian government loves their priceless gold relics, artifacts, and unspoiled mummies so they get the military involved, sending soldiers (including a crooked captain) to guard the precious find. Thrust into a spooky Indiana Jones setting, (weird things are happening that can't be explained) Carl Langley is an Australian archaeologist who is assigned to the excavation of this amazing archaeological find. The team uses the old fashioned methods, but also incorporates high-tech equipment and intricate technology as they investigate deeper.

Chris Turner is a master story-teller as he brings you right into the scenes. I felt like I was right there when Langley donned his headlamp and descended into the mysterious, dark chambers. The underground world is amazing and breathtaking! And I even got a little spooked when the paranormal vibes started kicking in. Like, just as Langley goes to snap a picture, this carved snake's green eyes turn luminescent. Spooky! And I loved it!

Strange things begin to happen. A bizarre voice echoes in Langley's head, he experiences strange visions, an amulet with faint inscriptions is found, and nobody can explain where a mysterious stray cat came from. I love the mystery with the amulet, especially when a voice commands Langley not to `bag' the weird object, and when he tries to he can't. Instead, he tosses it away, but later, while exploring one of the chambers, he notices small paw prints etched in the dust. Not only is the cat there which is impossible, (love the paranormal element) but upon further exploration, he is shocked to find the amulet has crossed his path again. Déjà vu. So this time Langley keeps the amulet hidden and continues to be mesmerized by it. Does it hold some kind of mystical, Egyptian power...one that seems to possess him? Is there an evil presence lurking around? A prophecy from Koruka (first pharaoh-queen of Egypt) says: my final resting place is hallowed land, sacred beyond belief; it will not be defiled by mortal man. The book makes me wonder if archeologists should tread on sacred land or should the mysteries of the sacred past be left alone? Are people plundering treasures and defiling crypts all in the name of archeology and historical exploration?

The adventure continues and the plot thickens and I don't want to say any more for fear of spoiling it. But I will say this: The author's descriptions and extraordinary knowledge of history from ancient Egyptian history held my interest...and captivated me. I was hooked from the beautiful words, the fantastic descriptions, and the creative plot line. It was different...not the same old stuff. And I loved the ending, especially when I got my answer as to why the pyramid is six-sided!

I also loved the unique and memorable characters Turner created. Especially the mysterious saffron-gold Siamese cat (named Goldie) that hangs around the site! But out of all the characters, I have to say that Langley was my favorite because he was just so cool and I could really connect with his character. He was like my very own `Indy'. And I absolutely adore his love interest, Yisella.

This book is a paranormal trip that sends you into a world of hidden secrets, and into a secret place that has been hidden by time for 5,000 years. The story is interesting, imaginative, and exciting. I'd encourage all readers to come experience this fantastic world of archaeology, adventure, supernatural suspense, forbidden discoveries, and ancient mysteries. You won't be disappointed! This is definitely recommended and five stars without a doubt.

Hello Diane! Welcome to The Purple Brick Road. What project are you currently working on?

Right now it is to make this Christmas special.

Our son and daughter-in-law are returning to the mission field in March, and our daughter's hubby has just been asked to go to China on a three year assignment for his work. So our daughter and little grand gals will be gone for three years after Dec. I'm so grateful for the opportunities they'll have,  and feel fortunate that our older son will be staying in SC!  I realize time is precious and I want to make the most of this coming Christmas with all the kids and grands. So, it really is my project for December and a family photo and old favorites for the kids are on my list to make for dinner. (My book, which I'm doing a final proof on will resume after the first of the year).

That sounds lovely. Name 5 favorite movies. Why?





1. All time favorite "To Kill A Mockingbird." Showed the reality of the way life was during a time and period in the past.

2."Friendly Persuasion" Sweet story about the Quaker (Society of Friends) religion and how hard it was to walk with those beliefs, with humor, love and truth.

3. "Murphy's Romance".... Sally Field and James Gardner had a fun chemistry in this older film, and more of a chic flick, it showed the hard work a single mom took on, and a lonely widower who fell in love with her over time.

4. "Fried Green Tomatoes" Just loved it. How many times have we traveled through a lone town and wondered what the past was like.

Great story in so many ways!!! (Loved the scene with the gals in the little red VW---wishing I could find an old car and do that to it!)

5. "A Time to Kill" -- love court room drama! The beginning makes you want to hang the two guys who violated this little girl and tossed her to die.

I related to the young lawyer and how much he wanted to do justice, but was up against the old ways in the South. The ending was brilliant and it is a favorite for sure.

What would you do if you were the last person on this Earth?

Worry that the rapture took place and I was left behind!!! (Pray that God would sweep me up to heaven).

What's your favorite Christmas memory?

Just a time in the late 50's when I'd go down into the living room and sit next to the Christmas tree when it was very early morning, and plug in the big egg size lights and think about the coming Christmas and wondering what presents I would get. The link below will share more.
