Product Description

How hard do you have to shake a family tree to find out the truth about the past?

Fifteen-year-old Rae Kerrigan never questioned her family’s history. That is until she accepted a scholarship to Guilder Boarding School in England. Guilder is an exclusive, gifted school. Rae has no idea what she is getting herself into or that her family’s past is going to come back and taunt her.

She learns she is part of an unparalleled group of individuals who become inked with a unique tattoo (tatu) on their sixteenth birthday. The tatu enables them to have supernatural powers particular to the shape of their ink-art. Both of her parents where inked, though Rae never knew, as they passed away when she was young. Learning about her family's past, her evil father and sacrificial mother, Rae needs to decide if there is a ray of hope in her own life.

Bio:

Where do characters come from? The muses in my head create them and they grow as a story develops. Sometimes they mature, sometimes they hit a downward spiral, and sometimes... they have to die.

***

Wanita May grew up in the fruit belt of Ontario - St.Catharines.  Crazy-happy childhood, she always has had a vivid imagination and loads of energy.

The youngest of six -- four older brothers, and a sister --  taught her at a young age to be competitive in all aspects of life.

At sixteen, she began competing in athletics (track and field) and before she turned seventeen, she was representing Canada in high jump.  She continued to compete, breaking Canada's JR High Jump record (1.92m - 6' 3 1/2" for those metric-ly challenged).  She attented University of Toronto, and Kansas State University - winning CIAU's and becoming All-American 6x - NCAA Indoors Runner Up + more.

But you're not interested in her athletic career - unless of course you're curious to know she stands 1.70m (5'7") and has jumped 20cm over her head on more than one occassion. She's represented Canada at the World Championships, World Jrs., won Francophone Games, and loved every minute of every competition.  From the grueling workouts, the crazy weights she lifted on her back, the days she thought her lungs were going to spit out of her mouth for lack of oxygen, the travelling around the world and the opportunity to read - her favourite past time.

Life continued with her husband (a distance runner from Liverpool, UK, who she met at KSU) and then their first, then second and finally third child.  Their house became full of more imagination and stories.

Wanita and her husband run an online business, dealing in antiques and collectables - particularly jewelry and porcelain (one of the business' website: http://www.wadeincanada.com/ ).

After her father passed away in 2009, from a six-year battle with cancer (which she still believes he won the fight against), she began to write again.  A passion she'd loved for years, but realized life was too short to keep putting it off.

Her first book, Rae of Hope - from the Chronicles of Kerrigan - will be available October 2011 by kNight Romance Publishing.

She is currently represented by Dawn Dowdle of Blue Ridge Literary Agency. Wanita is a writer of Young Adult, Fantasy Fiction and where ever else her little muses take her.

Hello Wanita.
Hidy-ho neighbour!  I’m totally pumped you asked me to your blog today!  My feet won’t stop dancing!
That's awesome. Let me tell you I'm just as excited! Welcome to The Purple Brick Road. It's a pleasure to have you today. Please tell me about your book.
RofH – aka Rae of Hope is the first book in the Chronicles of Kerrigan.  It is officially being released in print this month (American Thanksgiving actually).  It’s published by Mitchel Morris Publishing.
Rae is a fifteen year old gal with some pretty cool stuff happening.
What's your next project?
Finishing the edits on the second book in the series, writing the third book, editing another book I am working on, and finishing a WIP as well J
If we Googled your name what would we see?
Probably my High Jumping Track career before my writing stuff

Ah, yes! I got some pics of that below! You didn't think I was going to leave those out did you?

You're an amazing athlete, Wanita. For anyone interested, check out Wanita's stats at this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanita_MayIf you could have been told one thing that you weren't told when you were a teenager, what would you like to have heard?
Spend more time with your Dad and have your babies sooner – they’ll change your life
Are you a morning or night person?
– Both – I like both, though I notice I’m becoming more night
Does Prince Charming exist?

Yeah, I married him
Wanita, that is so sweet! And I have to agree. Any man who gets a poster-size picture of his wife’s book cover to hang on the wall is awesome! Here is the picture:

List five adjectives to describe yourself.
Hyper, Imaginative, Multi-tasker, Talkative, crazy?
You crazy? *coughs and clears throat* Would you eat vegetables on a veggie table?
Oh yeah!! I LOVE veggies – always the first to go on my dinner plate
Are you spring, summer, fall, or winter?

SPRING – everything begins and feels fresh, no wait, Winter – loads of snow… no wait, autumns so pretty with all the leaves, uh… wait, can I change it to summer ‘cause of the hot, hot weather.  I’m spoiled where I live in Canada – I get all four seasons in full. It’s awesome!
What's your favorite material object that you already own?
My computers
What item, that you don't have already, would you most like to own?
My house ;)
If you could eliminate one thing from your daily schedule, what would it be and why?

Sleep – I always feel like I could use more time!
If you were to write a book about yourself, what would you name it?
HIGHER…
Which body part would you choose to get a tattoo done?

Already done… and not saying ;)
Wanita! You have a tattoo! I never knew that. Tea or coffee?
Decaf – and both!
What's the one thing, you can't live without?
Internet J
Ditto! *smiles* It’s not like I spend too much time on my computer or anything. *coughs again* Would you rather have a cat or dog? Why?
Dog … it’s hard to walk a cat J and a BIG dog… little ones look kinda like cats J

Love your dog! If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
– the one my mc has in Rae of Hope
Oh! I know the one! What is your favorite quote?
“The heights of men were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upwards in the night” author unknown
What's the furthest you have traveled?

It was to: South Korea… or Japan?  I have been to both at different times
What is your best scar? Tell the story of how you got it.
 – on the upper part of the back of my leg… ok, maybe a little bit higher.  I was about 5 when it happened.  I have 4 older brothers (and a sister too) but my oldest brother is 9 years older than me and took me for a ride in our backyard on his mini-minibike.  It was awesome… till I decided I wanted to get off by myself and slide down to sit momentarily on the exhaust pipe.  I’ve got a good set of lungs so you can imagine what happened ;)
What's your favorite sport?
Athletics – high jump
I found another picture of you doing high jump! Here it is:

Wanita jumping 1.90m (6'3") at World Championship Trials, Edmonton, AB, Canada

Those are amazing pictures, Wanita. You're an awesome athlete. If you had to be a teacher of something, what would you teach?
Phys Ed
I can totally see that. What was the first car you drove?
Standard (not automatic) Ford Escort
Hey! I drive a Ford Escort. I love it! What do you miss most about childhood?
How summer seemed to last forever J and just being carefree.  I wouldn’t want to go back, but I would love to have a conversation with myself (like in the Time Traveller) That’d be pretty neat
You were bitten by a vampire, now what? (Or werewolf)
Go find Edward Cullen (or Jacob)
Yeah, I think I'd do the same thing, too, 'cause he's pretty hot! What is Eskimo ice?
Flippin’ hard ice from the Tundra here in Canada
Look at the picture to the right. You are being chased by Godzilla, what do you do?
Pretend I see Jane. (or whatever his love interest’s name was J )
Why am I asking you these questions?

‘Cause Chrissy is Crazy J
That I am! LOL. What comes first, Chicken or Egg?

Does it REALLY matter?  As long as you know Who made them J
AWESOME answer! When is your birthday?

Winter… after Christmas, but before Valentine’s Day J
How many brothers and sisters do you have?
Immediate – 4 brothers (all married), 1 sister (married), 1 sister in law (married), 1 brother in law (married)
Where does your family live?
All in the same city/area – within 20 minutes of each other
Where do you live?
In Canada
What's your worst pet peeve?
People who drive BELOW the speed limit
Like this turtle? Hee, hee, hee. What's your favorite horror movie?

 Can’t watch… I’m a total wimp
Do you do dance crazy when no one is looking?
Heck yeah!!!  Even when people are looking!
Do you play a musical instrument?
 Piano, Flute, Piccolo
Most frequent song played?
Right now – Adele

Movies or TV?
Movies or PVR’d tv – less commercials!

McDonalds or Burger King and why?

WENDY’s! (because of the spicey chicken burger) I love their chicken sandwich!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten?

Alligator

… or Ostrich
Hmm. I wondered what that tasted like. Feathery? Or tough? You were just given a yacht. What would you name it?
CU L8r
Do you have any hidden talents?

 I hope so J

Wow, that really was a great interview! I get such stage fright about interviews that I've kind of steered away from them, but I love reading ones like this.

This book sounds really interesting. After this comment I'm going to stalk Wanita, then I am heading over to Goodreads to TBR it :)

And I love that trailer! The blood red tear near the end was just beyond gorgeous!

And Chrissy, thank you for stopping by my site. I'm a new follower for you. The imagery on your site is just beautiful, I'm looking forward to going through and reading more :)
